Altia Systems Announces Real-Time VR Capabilities for PanaCast 2, the World’s First Panoramic-4K Plug-and-Play USB Camera
Camera with VR Mode is Available Now; Making its Public Debut at VRLA in Los Angeles, August 5 – 6
August 4, 2016, Cupertino, CA – Altia Systems – a CES 2016 Award Honoree and recipient of the 2016 Frost and Sullivan New Product Innovation Award – today announced the availability of a Virtual Reality mode for its award-winning PanaCast 2 Panoramic-4K real-time video camera. The newly available Virtual Reality mode is based on a new generation of global stitching technology and algorithms which optimize for outdoor and live-action use. The camera is in production and available today with the VR mode for the original price of $995.
With its on-board PanaCast video processor, the PanaCast 2 outputs Panoramic-4K video with industry-leading sub-single frame latency. The PanaCast 2 offers a 3840 x 1080 pixels per frame resolution across a 180° field-of-view that mimics the natural human perspective. Relative to a 360° x 360° 4K camera, this results in significantly higher-quality video thanks to 2x higher horizontal and ~3.3x higher vertical pixel density.
With the VR mode enabled for PanaCast 2, consumer and professional content creators can create high quality VR content with point-and-shoot simplicity, enabling a number of use cases such as:
- Creative videography: Create short-form immersive content for advertising, entertainment, virtual tours/real estate, etc. Content can be experienced in real-time, recorded, or uploaded to cloud-based services such as YouTube and Facebook. The content can be experienced immersively on VR/AR head mounted devices or viewed on traditional screen-based devices.
- Immersive broadcast/live streaming: Live stream concerts as well as sporting, educational, or other live events.
- VR Telepresence/Shared Real-Time Experience: Share experiences in real-time from multiple remote locations. This has applications in a number of business use cases such as training, education, telemedicine, etc.
- Ultra-fast computer vision applications: For advanced real-time control within IoT applications as an intelligent imaging system to improve performance of artificial intelligence and deep learning algorithms.
“With the new VR mode for PanaCast 2, people can shoot Panoramic-4K immersive video in all types of everyday settings – all in real-time and at an affordable price,” said Aurangzeb Khan, President & CEO of Altia Systems. “They can easily view the content in real-time and upload and share the content via YouTube360, Facebook360, and other popular video sharing platforms.”
