Before a reliance on audio-only communications hurts your productivity, make sure you have a solid video roadmap in place.
If you are a typical IT executive, your workforce may be clamoring for increased access to video technology. We are now culturally ready to adopt video on a much larger scale in the workplace. It no longer seems odd or special to meet with someone over video. We do it all the time at home and on our mobile devices. In fact, we are becoming more and more aware of the limitations of audio-only communication and less and less willing to let it hold our productivity back.
The first step in creating your video roadmap is to assess your status. What is your current use of video? If you already have something in place, you may want to expand on it, rather than ripping and replacing. If you are starting with nothing, you want to be sure that your first steps won’t limit future expansions. While video environments and potential deployments come in countless variations, you might find yourself in one of the following three basic models.
