LDV Throwback Thursday: Mickey Mouse Talking Phone

“Mickey, come over for a party!”

With only a few canned responses, we really had to use our imaginations to enjoy a conversation with Mickey and his friends back in they day. But we would play with this thing for hours.

Today’s kids have a little more to work with. I recently came across the modern version of the old Mickey Mouse Talking Phone. Check out the Disney Junior Magic Phone App.

It’s a different world. There was no risk of kids racking up in-app purchases with the old Mickey phone. Also, no privacy concerns with an app having access to your phone’s camera while being connected to the internet. But it sure seems to offer a lot more than a few canned responses. With video, texting, scheduled calls, games, and songs, this has a much better chance of grabbing kids’ short attention spans.

They say inside every adult is a little kid who loves Disney. While the little kid inside me will always have nostalgic love for the old Mickey phone, he is a bit jealous of what today’s kids get to play with!
