Newell-Fonda schools are one of six in the community college district to be included in a Rural Utilities Service grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, through Iowa Central Community College.
The matching grant of more than a quarter-million dollars will allow for the purchase of Polycom video conferencing systems that will replace older Iowa Communications Network fiber optic systems.
Newell-Fonda and the other school districts will be able to install one system each if they choose. Storm Lake’s Iowa Central site is one of the few places in northwest Iowa that already has the system, and plans are to expand the center to three systems with similar projects at ICCC sites in Fort Dodge and Webster City.
