In a previous post I wrote about a survey showing a majority of companies – 70% – with 500 or more employees are using IP-based voice services and the various benefits they’re realizing. Those benefits include a more flexible work environment, reduced costs and streamlined infrastructure, with voice and data running over a single network.
However, as the piece explained, that’s really just the beginning:
But even larger benefits are on the horizon as more firms implement unified communications technologies, which by and large require an IP-based infrastructure. Forty-two percent of respondents say they’re already realizing benefits from UC integration and 45% say they’ve benefitted from integrating their office phone system with mobile devices.
What I fear may be getting lost in this discussion is the fact that it’s not just companies with lots of employees that can gain these benefits; small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) stand to gain just as much. But it all starts with the move to an IP-based infrastructure.
