A first-of-its-kind physiotherapy program in London is using videoconferencing technology to help patients waiting for a life-saving organ transplant stay physically active without leaving the comforts of their own home.
TONE — the Transplant ONline Exercise program — is a physiotherapist-led idea picking up momentum at the London Health Sciences Centre’s Multi-Organ Transplant Program (MOTP). Inspired by the free to use videoconferencing apps available on pretty much every Internet-connected device on the market, MOTP physiotherapist Nancy Howes and her colleague, physiotherapy associate Tracey Fuller, said connecting out-of-town patients to regularly scheduled exercise sessions through Skype offers a number of important benefits.
